Sketches of our AGM

This month’s cartoon is by cartoonist-in-residence, Susan Macleod.

Grief Matters recently held its first Annual General Meeting, which was opened to both the public and our board members. There were 20 people in attendance on Zoom on July 14, 2026. During this meeting, we provided a financial update, reviewed our accomplishments, and announced our new board of directors. Then, we had a robust discussion with the attendees about what our community would like to see from Grief Matters as we continue to grow.

One of those in attendance was Susan MacLeod, one of our talented cartoonists-in-residence. Unbeknownst to us, she spontaneously made sketches while listening to the meeting. Her drawings were not intended to be representative of anyone in particular, nor a record of minutes of the meeting. However, we love them and wanted to share them with you. We are grateful to Susan for creating a lasting picture of the engagement of our community.

Susan MacLeod is a co-cartoonist-in-residence at Grief Matters, and is a Nova Scotian artist writing and drawing about health care issues. Her humorous book, Dying for Attention: A Graphic Memoir of Nursing Home Care, follows her nine-year journey shepherding her mother through a callous long-term care system. This inspired her interest in end-of-life and grief issues.
