Where ARE all the books about adult sibling grief?

In the ‘early days’ after my sister Leigh-Ann died, there were no books or support groups when I went looking for specific support for siblings. Many more offerings exist today, such as sibling grief-related bibliotherapy and online grief support groups specific to adult siblings. I endeavour now to help create a wider receptive audience within the global grief support community by planting a seed with humour and recommendations when addressing the need for specific peer grief support for adult siblings.

Earla Dawn Legault is an artist who advocates for using creativity to process loss. In December 2013, her sister Leigh-Ann died at the age of 51. A year after, Earla retired early from a career in public libraries. During the pandemic, she shared creative ways for bereaved adult siblings to express grief through weekly art sessions. She also developed and co-facilitated Connecting through Creativity, an adult sibling peer grief support workshop through Chilliwack Hospice, the first of its kind in Canada. Earla is trained as a volunteer with her local hospice, is a The Compassionate Friends (TCF) Canada peer support facilitator, and a Trauma Loss facilitator through BC Bereavement. Earla co-hosts the monthly online Canada Sibling Sharing Circle. Earla was awarded the TCF’s National Karen Snepp Outstanding Sibling Award in 2024 for making significant contributions that have fostered the philosophy of sibling programming. Earla has co-written and illustrated Living With Sibling Grief: Imagining a Way Forward with sibling grief buddy, Monica Murphy.
