Event Hosts

Thank you for hosting an event!

Event hosts are responsible for their own event registration; accepting payments (when applicable), finding venues and generating video conference links.

Please consider ways you can make your event more accessible. Grief Matters can help with funding, if needed, contact us for more details. Here is a link for sign language interpreters in Nova Scotia.

Below are some resources to support you, please don’t hesitate to email us at info@griefmatters.ca if you need any assistance, we’d be happy to create more detailed guides as needed.

Graphics for Social Media, Newsletters, etc

If you want to promote the festival and your own event, here are some graphics you can use. Click on the image, which will open it in a new tab. There, you can control-click (Windows) or command-click (Mac) and save it to your computer.

Event Registration

The simplest option would be to use email. People could send you their email addresses, and you could keep track on your own list. You can email them with a PayPal or Stripe link for payments, if applicable.

Another, more detailed option would be to use Eventbrite. Eventbrite doesn’t charge for free events, and has reasonable pricing for paid events. You click the ‘Create an Event’ button in the header and fill out the form, and voila, your event is created.

Collecting Information in a Form

If you want to gather information from people, either just names and email addresses, or maybe you need some more detailed information from attendees, a Google Form is a great option. You will need a gmail account to register, you can make one for free. Here’s a video on how to create a Google Form.

Video Conferencing for Virtual Events

The best options for hosting an event virtually are Google Meet and Zoom.

Google Meet allows you to host a meeting with up to 100 people for up to 60 minutes for free. If you want more people or longer times, you’ll have to subscribe to one of their pricing plans, which are annual commitments, although they do have a 14-day trial, just make sure to cancel in time. The cheapest plan, the Business Starter plan, still allows you up to 100 people, but the time limit is 24 hours instead of 1.

Zoom allows you up to 100 attendees and a 40 minute limit on the free plan. The cheapest paid plan is $21.49/month, that gives you up to 100 attendees and up to 30 hours included. Zoom has a detailed video library of tutorials on YouTube, here are some basics.
